RCJ-2007 PARTICIPANT INFORMATION

last updated: 24-June-2007/sklar

printer-friendly: info page, maps, media permission form OR everything together.

Please read carefully the following information that is IMPORTANT FOR ALL RCJ-2007 PARTICIPANTS, including student team members and mentors.

  1. TEAM REGISTRATION
Currently, there are 154 teams registered from 23 countries. PLEASE Check for your team name in TWO places:
If your team is not on "GAMES LIST", please send an email marked "URGENT RCJ" to: Elizabeth Sklar to make sure your team will be scheduled to play games/perform.
If your team is not on "PAID LIST", please send email marked "URGENT RCJ" to: customerservice@georgiarobotics.com, since there has been a problem with your payment. Please try to resolve the problem before you come to RoboCupJunior 2007. If you are unable to do so, make sure you bring with you to Atlanta:
    1. your team code that you received when you registered (probably a 5 letter code),
    2. a copy of your registration confirmation from the Georgia Robotics web page (the page from the end of the registration procedure, which you hopefully printed out when you completed the registration process), and
    3. a copy of your credit card statement showing that you did indeed pay.

  2. MEDIA PERMISSION FORM
Please download and print out the media permission form, which can be found here:
    media-permission-rcj2007.pdf
Please ask a parent or guardian to sign form for each student who is attending, and bring those forms with you for checking in on the first day at RCJ-2007.

  3. WHEN YOU ARRIVE
CHECK-IN: for RCJ-2007 will be held on Sunday July 1 from 8am to 8pm*.
LOCATION: ALL TEAMS must check-in at the Field Residence Hall (see MAP OF VENUES).
    *LATE ARRIVALS:
    • If you are staying in campus housing, please contact: Cedric Stallworth if you will be arriving on campus after 8pm and will need to check into housing.
    • If you are NOT staying in campus housing and you will arrive after 8pm on July 1, please check in on Monday July 2, starting at 8am.

  4. RESPONSIBLE ADULT
All teams must have at least one adult over 18 years of age who can be responsible for team members in case of any emergency. This can either be the Team Mentor or an Accompanying Adult. One person can take this responsibility for more than one team.

  5. MEDICAL INSURANCE
The United States does not have national health insurance. All travelers to the US should carry their own medical insurance, which can typically be purchased inexpensively from many travel agencies. Please make sure you obtain traveler's medical insurance for ALL team members BEFORE YOU COME to the US.

  6. SUPER TEAMS
Each of the three challenges (soccer, rescue, dance) involves a "Super Team" component. This is an opportunity for teams from different countries to work together and play games. All super-team members will not speak the same language. Mentors and Adults will be allowed to offer help with translation. However, as below, too much help is not allowed. The students will find ways to communicate with each other through gestures and drawings---this is an important part of the learning and sharing experience of RoboCupJunior.

  7. MENTOR/ADULT ASSISTANCE
The mission of RoboCupJunior is about learning and sharing technology. The focus is not on winning. It is important that all mentors and accompanying adults be aware of this mission and support it. Mentor and adult access to the team setup areas will be limited. Any mentor/adult who is seen overly helping their team will first receive a warning (a yellow card will be placed on the team's table) and second will be removed from the venue (a red card will be placed on team's table). A good "rule of thumb" is that all Mentors and Adults must keep their hands off their teams' computers and robots. Please keep your hands in your pockets!

  8. SCHEDULE
Detailed schedules will be available shortly.
Teams should be aware that ALL SCHEDULES ARE ESTIMATED, and teams must be willing to be flexible. Sometimes changes must be made at the last minute due to delays with flights, unforeseen problems at the venue, etc. There will be a central information desk for each challenge (soccer, rescue, dance) where teams can check up-to-date schedules.

    The overall schedule is:

  9. CONTACT FOR URGENT QUESTIONS
If you have URGENT questions, you may contact Elizabeth Sklar.
PLEASE do not email me asking for more information about the schedule. If it's not posted here, that's because we don't have it yet. I promise to post it here as soon as it is ready.

Have a safe trip to Atlanta!

    cheers,
--Elizabeth Sklar, RCJ League Chair, 2007.
